THOMAS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

– South Charleston, WV

The Medical Office Pavilion at Thomas Memorial Hospital is a five-story, 85,800 sq ft building adjacent to the existing hospital. The project includes a two-story, 17,000 sq ft wing connecting the new facility to the main hospital. Underpinning   was required for portions of the existing building foundation in order to provide a new ground floor elevation that is 14 ft below the ground floor of an adjacent building.   The floors are framed with structural steel beams and a steel roof deck. Lateral loads are resisted by moment resisting frames in the east-west directions and braced frames in the north-south direction. Due to poor soil conditions, the main structural components are supported on an augercast pile foundation system extended to bedrock. The foundation system was designed to accommodate a future five-story clinical wing to be constructed adjacent to the Medical Office Pavilion.

CENTRE POINTE BUILDING 5

– Cincinnati, OH

Steven Schaefer Associates provided the structural design for this four-story 135,000 sq ft office building framed with composite steel beams and girders. The building also includes underground parking with direct access to the offices.

DHL SORT FACILITY BUILDING F

- Wilmington, OH

Steven Schaefer Associates provided the structural design for this 1.1 million sq ft expansion of the DHL sort facility. The building was broken into six smaller pods with expansion joints, interior moment frames, and perimeter pre-cast walls. The building is built on a 20” thick existing sloping runway with a deep foundation system of drilled piers. The facility includes 42,000 sq ft of office and support space for the sort operations located on the second floor and second floor mezzanines which are framed with composite steel beams and concrete slab on metal deck. The new building abutted an existing pre-engineered metal building that continued its sort operation throughout the entire construction process. New snow canopies were hung from the new building to minimize the drifted snow impact on the existing building.

ARI WAREHOUSE / CRANE

Steven Schaefer Associates provided the structural design for this new single-story 32,800 sq ft warehouse with a 3,200 sq ft conventionally framed mezzanine and one 5-ton top running crane in one bay. A new two-story attached office building offers 11,100 sq ft per floor with a two-story atrium/entry that includes an exterior glass curtainwall and a barrel vault roof. The office building and warehouse are separated by a tilt-up fire barrier. Exterior walls are tilt-up concrete, with partial brick and stone veneer at office.

ROOSEVELT PAPER

Steven Schaefer Associates provided the structural design of this 300,000 sq ft warehouse with precast concrete walls and spread footing foundation. The project included a 4,800 sq ft steel framed office and a 3,200 sq ft mezzanine.
