Steven Schaefer Associates has a significant resume of renovation and restoration projects – including historic, urban, and reuse. We assess deficiencies accurately, suggest appropriate options, design the best possible solution, and provide a clear and concise set of construction documents. Our firm also provides construction administration services and can aid in the bidding phase and construction process.
Examples of our renovation projects include:
Anna Louise Inn (Cincinnati, OH)
The Anna Louise Inn is a multifamily residential building operated by Cincinnati Union Bethel as a place for women to get a second chance on life. The building was constructed in two stages, the first in the late 1800’s and second in 1909. A major renovation of this historic building will include the removal of many interior walls as a means to increase the size of the residences from under 200 sq ft per resident to small apartments with multiple rooms. As a part of the renovation, a new partial floor may be added to the top of the building. A significant portion of the structural work will be to determine the lateral load resisting system and the impact of the removal of the interior walls on the existing lateral load resisting system.
Jimmy Heath House Modifications (Cincinnati, OH)
We provided the structural design for the renovation of this space into a 25-unit permanent supportive housing facility. The development includes efficiency and one-bedroom apartments within multiple interconnected buildings using a single entrance. The renovation included new walls and floors between buildings at each floor, removal of existing stairs at the middle three buildings, new openings in walls at each floor level to form continuous corridor connecting all buildings, a new elevator, and new concrete lintels and supporting columns around new openings to resist current code seismic forces.
580 Building (Cincinnati, OH)
The project for this seventeen-story 600,000 square foot office building included façade improvements and interior renovations such as added second floor space to the northwest corner, removing existing stairs and escalators, reworking the mid-block entry to be the new main entry, new escalators and stairs, and added elevator shafts.
