RUMPKE BUILDING 1 TRUCK MAINTENANCE FACILITY

– Colerain Township, OH

The new state-of-the-art truck maintenance facility consists of a new 65,000 sq ft building and a 350-space truck parking/operations area on an eighteen acre site.  The new maintenance building consists of 32 high bay truck maintenance bays, a 10,000 sq ft parts storage area, 13,000 sq ft of second floor office space, a 4,000 sq ft training area, 2,500 sq ft of operations offices, and a 1,600 sq ft truck wash bay.  The building is constructed employing several different construction types to maximize aesthetics while minimizing cost and involves conventional steel framing supported on a combination of tilt-up concrete and steel metal panel walls.  Working closely with the company’s maintenance personnel, the building was designed around the owner’s operations to maximize efficiency and minimize life cycle costs.  Expected to be complete mid 2008, this new $7 million building will consolidate truck maintenance operations and provide office space for expanding office functions.  Steven Schaefer Associates is the prime consultant for the design and construction administration of the facility.

WASTE MANAGEMENT TRANSFER STATION II

– Cincinnati, OH

Steven Schaefer Associates acted as both structural engineer and project manager on this single-story 14,800 sq ft pre-engineered metal building with a 15 ft deep pit for loading sorted garbage into the transfer trucks. The sloping site had two entrances at the front. Garbage trucks back into the building and unload the garbage onto a concrete slab. Semi tractor-trailer trucks with trailers open from above enter a lower side drive-through pit entrance located at the rear. A steel rake riding on embedded rails in the slab pushes the garbage into the pit containing the semis who then haul their load to a final destination.
