Tilt Up

The best way to show our tilt-up expertise is to show you the variety of structures we’ve designed using this construction method. Tilt-up has many benefits when it comes to construction – cost effective, easily maintained, extremely durable, high insulation values, fire resistance, etc. A typical challenge is the panel design process – a balancing act where the panel thickness needs to be sufficient for the panel to be lifted into place without damaging the panels but still thin enough that a crane can efficiently lift and place the panels.

NORTH POINTE AT UNION CENTRE OFFICE CAMPUS – West Chester, OH
Steven Schaefer Associates provided the structural design for two L-shaped, four-story tilt-up buildings totaling 404,000 sq ft. These build-to-suit offices will allow the tenant to consolidate over 1,400 office personnel in a single location. We were able to meet the aggressive schedule and high technical standards required by the developer and tenant.

GREENDALE CINEMA – Lawrenceburg, IN
Greendale Cinema is a 33,500 sq ft, single story building with a projection mezzanine.  Tilt-Up allowed for cost effective construction, intricate architectural features, panels that could be erected quickly and efficiently, and low life-cycle costs. The layout of the horizontal-spanning, movie-reel themed main entry panels was very intricate. The front elevation of the movie theater includes the top half of the 70-ft diameter movie reel, including four windows. The Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) awarded Greendale Cinemas the winner in its 2006 Tilt-Up Achievement Award, Commercial Division.

WEST CHESTER COMMERCE PARK #7 – West Chester, OH
This 575,000 sq ft tilt-up concrete manufacturing/warehouse facility includes a 32 ft clear height. The height of panels from the top of the spread footings to the top of the parapet was up to 42 ft and the building has steel framed metal siding at the rear wall for future expansion. The large size of the footprint required two expansion joints at third points along the length and one at the middle of the width. The typical bay size was 50 ft x 48 ft. The building has an entrance diagonal to each corner, along with numerous dock doors with levelers and two truck ramps into the building.

AIRSIDE BUSINESS PARK – Pittsburgh, PA
Tilt-up design allowed developers to solve a number of critical issues. Originally bid as a conventional steel frame structure with applied precast, the buildings were converted to tilt-up to meet the specified architectural guidelines, allow the schedule to be expedited and save the owner thousands in construction costs. The tallest panel is 53’-0” and the largest is 1,060 sq ft. Steven Schaefer Associates provided the structural design for this award-winning project (Tilt-Up Concrete Association’s 2005 Achievement Award, Office Division).
